APC holds press conference announcing federal economic development designation

LAFAYETTE, La. – Today, the Acadiana Planning Commission (APC), joined by local, state and federal officials, held a press conference at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center announcing their federal designation as an economic development district.

“The secret of our success is when we partner with local agencies, because economic development is something that happens at the local level,” said U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) Regional Director, Jorge Ayala. “It’s very much a grass roots process. As such, I am excited to announce the addition of the Acadiana Planning Commission as a new local economic development partner.”

With this federal designation, APC will partner with EDA who works with a nationwide network of 380 Economic Development Districts and other state and local officials to address the fundamental building blocks for economic growth, such as regional innovation strategies, vital public infrastructure, business loan funds and flexible resources for communities.

“APC is committed to working strategically to bring governments together for stronger, smarter and more effective planning and implementation. I am proud to say that receiving federal designation as an economic development district is a great testament to that commitment,” said St. Landry Parish President and APC Board Chairman, Bill Fontenot.

“It’s such an honor to be designated as an EDA economic development district,” said APC CEO, Monique Boulet. “It will give us the capacity to bring new funding into the region in ways that leverage our strengths while benefitting from economies of scale.”

The Acadiana Planning Commission (APC) serves the public sector through planning and implementation of Community, Economic, and Transportation Development throughout the Acadiana region.
